Updated at 11:45 p.m. ET: cia.gov is back up, although it is loading slowly, about nine hours after it was reported to be down, followed shortly by a claim that the hacker group Anonymous was responsible.
Updated at 7:10 p.m. ET: cia.gov remains inaccessible four hours after it was first reported to be down, followed shortly by a claim that the hacker group Anonymous was responsible. As security experts have noted, that's an unusually long time if the attack really is a straightforward DDoS assault.
Meanwhile, the Anonymous Twitter account that set off the original round of reports has tweeted a follow-up that bolsters our original report (below) that the attack could have been launched by Anonymous or simply by "elements claiming to be part of it":
Updated at 6 p.m. ET: cia.gov remains inaccessible, about three hours after it was first reported to be down. Meanwhile, the Alabama Department of Homeland Security says any "comment would be premature at this time" because it was an "ongoing investigation," The Birmingham News reports.
Updated at 5:28 p.m. ET: Jennifer Youngblood, a spokeswoman for the CIA, tells CNN the agency is "looking into these reports."
Original post: The hacker group Anonymous, or elements claiming to be part of it, claimed it launched an ambitious set of attacks Friday, saying it had taken down the CIA's website and had harvested the personal information of 46,000 people in Alabama.
Neither claim could immediately be confirmed, but the CIA's site remained unavailable late Friday afternoon.
An Anonymous member tweeted CIA TANGO DOWN, using a military expression for the killing of an important target:
(Don't worry; the shortened link takes you to a safe news report on the incident.)
Gizmodo quoted a member of Anonymous as saying the CIA was under a distributed denial of service, or DDoS, by a group of anti-pedophile hackers.
The CIA had no immediate comment. The length of the site's disappearance suggests either an unusually extensive DDoS assault or a different form attack that could have infiltrated the agency's servers directly. That would mark a notable advance in the ability of Anonymous or hackers claiming to be affiliated with it to penetrate cyberdefenses.
In a further indication that the group could be stepping up its generally anti-bureaucracy, pro-open-Internet approach, Anonymous separately claimed responsibility for an attack on Alabama government servers, saying it had harvested the personal information — including dates of birth, Social Security numbers and criminal records — for 46,000 state residents.
In an Internet post that msnbc.com is not linking to, the Anonymous operative said the attack was launched in opposition to "recent racist legislation in an attempt to punish immigrants as criminals."
That appears to be a reference to a law Gov. Robert Bentley signed in June that has been called the nation's toughest immigration legislation. The posting linked to an msnbc.com story from September in which state officials promised to fully enforce the new law.
The post said the personal data would be deleted. But it did publish edited samples from 500 residents as proof of its claim — something Anonymous isn't known to have done before when the information involved private individuals, rather than government or police officials.
The attack resembles one that Anonymous claimed Tuesday night, when the Salt Lake City, Utah, police website went down under a DDoS campaign. A purported Anonymous member told NBC station KSL that that attack harvested phone numbers, addresses and email addresses of police officers and officials, as well as information on drug operations, suppliers, license plate numbers and more.
That attack came a day after yet another similar attack on a website for the West Virginia Chiefs of Police Association. The same Anonymous group that claimed Friday's CIA attack — calling itself CabinCr3w — claimed responsibility harvesting the personal information of more than 150 police officers.

At least some people are looking to keep our government in check. If you disagree with these things then maybe you should take a close look at some of our founding fathers' opinions regarding 'the people' and what exactly patriotism is and isn't. Government MUST be kept in check to prevent what's been happening lately, particularly at the start of GWB's term.
Go for it, Anonymous. We have a warrior for good here. Let the pedophiles, racists and greedy take warning.
"Keep our government in check?" I'm betting around 46,000 private citizens in Alabama with no connection to the eeeeevil government don't see it that way. But, I'm sure this group of noble thieves and anarchists will delete that information instead of using it to steal their identities.
Cyber security will just be enhanced to accommodate the CIA's needs ....
Hackers are nothing new ....
Right on, the CIA is unconstitutional
Obviously, we can use these guys/gals. Can't be easy to shut down the CIA website.
Still, think that private individuals' information should simply be left alone. If you want to expose corrupt gov. officials, racism, pedophiles, narco terrorists then I'm with you 100%.
so you find it alright that the government has all this personal information but not Anonymous? What is the difference? Both are complete strangers...
As long as Anon remains chaotic-neutral, they have my support.
Why is it that so many posters below are unable to distinguish between a principled interloper and a malevolent troublemaker ?
There is a message and a point to these actions and need to be viewed favorably or unfavorably based on their intent.
Personally if I were a US security official I would rather recruit and have them as allies given their obvious talent.
"Anonymous" and other animals like them should find a real job. What they do is reprehensible. They also are cowards. If they had real nerve and if they really believe what they do is right, they would come forth and announce who they are.
"Anonymous" my ass.
I call BS.
Or, if you believe everything you read, today I hacked the space shuttle and launched it!
I'm in favour of what they guys are doing...keeping the Government 'in check' through these type of actions is what it takes then I'm all for it. It's good that the personal info of private individuals is deleted but I'd keep all the police records and everything else and publish that on the web if the Government tries any more funny stuff. Gotta keep these guys in line or they play God.....next time a report of police abuse or abusing their powers....publish the names and addresses of the cops in question, pretty soon that kind of stuff would get less and less. If this type of 'terrorism' is what it takes to keep our public officials and their minions in line I'm all for it.
Maurice--while it would be nice to recruit someone who has this talent, would you EVER be able to trust them?
The fact is, when you tap into individuals' private info, these people never once think "eh, maybe that is not a good thing to do, and is wrong."
I fear we have raised a whole generation of kids who many have NO sense of right and wrong--just what you can 'get away with'. And that starts right at the top of the food chain, with our government winking at illegal aliens.
And at dirty campaign tricks, distortion of other's records, et al.
Frankly, my father would be APPALLED at the notion that the government feels the need to 'bail out' banks, car companies, or individuals, based on their own bad acts/judgement. The PROPER action, in his view, would be to let them face the consequences of their actions. But NO ONE seems to want to be responsible for their own actions.
Took anti-depressants, and despite the warnings, got pregnant? Oh, never mind, just sue the drug company for the birth defects. Disconected the safety on your lawn mower because it was inconvenient? Just sue John Deere if you cut off your foot.
Drove around that barricade and then got hit by a train? Never mind, just sue Union Pacific.
Tripped on your slippers getting out of bed and fell? Sue Sealy.
WHEN are we going to take responsibility for our OWN acts?
Why didn't they do this sooner?
This should have happened when Obama went back on his promise to Veto the NDAA
A hack? Good, keeps them on their toes and able to defend from the rest.
A DDoS attack on the CIA website isn't going to "keep the government in check" and despite what you think its easy to launch that type of attack.
Some of you support what they're doing? Does that include stealing personal and financial information from 46,000 citizens in Alabama? What do you think they're doing with that info? My guess is preparing to hack bank and credit accounts and take their money. It's insured, but there's a limit to everything. Even the FDIC would have trouble covering the loss 46,000 people could suffer. In the meantime, those people have no money for food, gas or medicine. The mortgage and car payments may have to wait.
Frankly, I hope they steal from your family members, so when they can't make their car payment or buy groceries, you can to them and say, "I support what they're doing, even though they left you desolate. You should support them too!" As soon as you say that, you may want to duck.
Hmmmm
If you can do it i can do it? How is this going to create a comfort zone for internet neutrality? With Great Power comes Great responsibility.
I still reserve my judgement on anonymous. Motives are so unclear????
I have my doubts that they are not part of the problem in which they say they are trying to eliminate. Creating a push to stop them just like the push to stop terrorism will lead to more loss of liberty.
Instead of going after the peoples government? Go after the corrupt people within the peoples government? Less general and more focus maybe?
This is good because we can be an open and free society in a 10-20 years if this keeps up and that is what our founders wanted.
First off. The Central Inteligence Agency is supposed to be only spying on foreigh affairs not internal one that are out of their jurisdiction. That is the FBI's department. Why does the CIA have: names, numbers, SS numbers, bank account #'s, and criminal histories of USA's private citizens. Something isnt right here... I do not condone the behavior of this group but they show a very very valid point of what the hell the CIA shouldnt be doing sniffing around in the own back yard. Those exact same rules apply to military personnel. Only in very rare casees is that changed and its only temporoarily change. I remember the oath of to protect this country from foreign and domestic enemies but in the context its used for the military is much different. that is reffering to enemies breaching our beaches and invading us or marshal law is declared. This is a blatant violation of the constituion by the CIA and violations of 46,000 people civil rights to privacy Etc.....as well as illegal suveillence on peoples personal (finances, information, where they are, what they are doing) Does anyone not question what the intelligence community is looking for by having this information or why they even have it. I think this is the exact point Anonymous is trying to make. The government has gotten out of control and is in fear of losing their power that they would spy on us???? Then have the audacity to say these guy are breaking the law. Look at the tea pot calling the kettle black....lol so sad
Maybe you are all reading wrong. Maybe the 46k names, and personal information of folks in Alabama, are on the CIAs servers. Naw, couldn't be, the CIA cannot..(LOL) spy on Americans.
@james-4040092
Hey dingleberry!
Read the story ya donkey. 46,000 names were taken from another 'attack' besides the CIA one. Possibly you think the CIA is based in Alabama? Well if you do, GO SMOKE ANOTHER BOWL!
Tango Down!....I repeat....Tango Down!
" ... "Anonymous" my ass. ... "
You mean kind of like you Ray?
" ... They also are cowards ... "
Again, you mean kind of like you Ray?
Or is your name really Ray of Hope?
And it's just my opinion. And I am allowed to have one. Even in your little fantasy world Ray. But you are an ignorant arse. Again, just my personal opinion. And if you really are a "ray of hope", all is lost. And this country is doomed. As well as the human race.
Lol. Oh and my real name IS George. And I really DO live in Washington State.
" ... would you EVER be able to trust them? ... "
Let me ask you a better question.
Are you able to trust your Government? More then you can trust these people.
If I had to choose, which one I'd want to have my back? Right now, I'd be hard pressed to pick The Speaker of the House, the House Majority Leader, the Minority leader in the Senate or anyone of the clowns running on the Republican side for President.
Hope that answers your question for you.
" ... its easy to launch that type of attack. ... "
And is actually just as easy to defend against as well. And one would hope that an agency like the CIA would be able to just that.
The very fact that they not only didn't defend against it is bad enough. But the fact that after it was detected they could still do nothing is even worse.
I am more afraid of a Government "intelligence" agency that can't defend it's self against a simple attack like this. Much more then I am of a group who could succeed at it. And extremely more afraid of a government that considers them to be the same as the terrorists that brought down the Trade Center towers. Or the people how claim that they are.
But then I guess that Washington, Franklin and Jefferson, et al, would be considered terrorists too, if they were alive today. Or at the very least traitors by the Right in America.
" ... My guess is preparing to hack bank and credit accounts and take their money. ... "
And your "guess" is based on what? You have evidence that says that they have done it in the past? Or that they are right now? Do you have any facts or other information that suggests that this might be true? Or did you just reach way up, to like your elbow, and pull this out of you arse?
Oh, that's right. You don't need proof or facts. Or even the truth for that matter. Freaking moron.
" ... In the meantime, those people have no money for food, gas or medicine. The mortgage and car payments may have to wait. ... "
Oh, and look at this. No facts and no proof. So you use fear instead. So predictable. Fear, hate and lies. My, my, my. Isn't that just so special. To bad that's all you have. It would be nice to have a conversation with people who could use facts and logic instead of fear, hate and lies. It would make you objections and points much more credible. Rather then the joke it is.
And just so you are clear. You AND your argument are both just that. A joke. A sad, sad one. But still a joke.
MOmaid (1.12)
Could not agree with you more. This group thinks it can do what it pleases to any person or entity it sees as having some fault or position it disagrees with. This is simply a form of intimidation. I hope they fail and get caught and find themselves in a federal court.
Hey George, please enlighten me (in deatail) as to how you would defend against a denial of service attack? Its evident by your comment that you have no idea what you're are talking about.
When the voice of the people is finally silent, then we have lost everything that we have fought so hard to preserve.
Anonymous please highjack the creditcard companys and delete my credit card debt... oh and the student loan collections agencies also... Thnks~
Good call. How does hacking into the CIA and State of Alabama sites do anything to advance the interests of the 99%?
Really Dudes ! Dont take our Info !! Wipe out our credit card debt !!
LOL! But seriously,
A petition has been started on moveon.org to prevent the return of debtor’s prison in the USA. Once enough signatures are obtained, it will go to the US Congress and President Obama.
To sign the petition go to:
signon.org/sign/outlaw-the-return-of
I wish these guys would go after Westboro Baptist Church
I feel that the more intelligent a person becomes the more they seem to lean toward truth and justice. You get my drift?
It's just a matter of time before the authorities catch up with you characters. Enjoy the ride while it lasts. I wonder what the sentence will be for attacking the CIA's computers. Tampering with matters of national security is no joke. It's tantamount to treason.
They need to take out Westboro Baptist.
Just a bunch of criminals........
You're so right and that's why Anonymous is dealing with the treasonous bastards!
Harold...they already did go after the WBC website after an interview with David Pakman @ MidweekPolitics and they crashed the site and left a message.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZJwSjor4hM
Watch that to lol. :)
I <3 Anon!
So, now they are going after the CIA and police officers' personal information?? Just further proof that these people are anarchists, terrorists and criminals.
I hope this group is caught soon and locked up where they belong. Better yet, may they resist arrest and be dealt with as harshly as they deserve. Nothing but scumbags, the lot of them.
There are right ways and wrong ways of attempting to resolve issuesand work for change, and this group has proven repeatedly that their way is the wrong way. They are nothing but a bunch of cowardly terrorists and should be dealt with just like Bin Laden was.
Harshly.
Have at it and expose the dirty secrets of that renegade band of murderers and thieves os US tax dollars. I'm sick of the words, "no Congressional oversight" over those weasels.
You guys do know that Anonymous is global, right?
Any intelligent service in any countries have done more illegal work for longest time. What CIA did may seem like a protecting US, but to people outside of US, they mostly illegal work and most often have negative effects on them.
Do Chinese intelligent service or their hackers division are working for the goods of the US? I don't think so, the same logic applies here.
At the end of the day, the government of any countries perform more illegal works and are the biggest crooks you can find on this planet.
When the voice of the people is finally silent, then we have lost everything that we have fought so hard to preserve. And all of the Blood we have spilled, all of the sweat and the toil, all that we have done to preserve this Great Nation, all will have been wasted.
Well now that SOPA was shot down here comes the next round of false flags for the PTB to shut down your internet. Can't have that up and running if hackers can shut down the government with it.
Galt check out the UN treaty Obama signed without getting it ratified by congress, it's kind of scary too.
Oh, and SOPA is being rewritten into a bill to "protect children from online pornogrophy"
Diabolical isn't it, if you don't vote for it your a diddler or you hate kids. Who can vote against protecting kids from online exploitation, right?
I don't get it - why were "anti-pediphile hackers" attacking the CIA? Do they employ pediphiles?
That's good, I'm glad someone's showing those racist federal officials that they can't abuse their power by control everything.
well why dont you go and fight for your own freedoms. and as we are we should just shut down every thing and let you deal deal with the war lords
popes ect """"""" and see what your life would be like then
How about you go to foreign countries and fight off the people that want to kill your family since you are the greatest.
I support our troops 100%, but bud and briksquad, I hate to break this to you, but our military hasn't fought for our freedom in a long, long time. The truth of the matter is none of the global occupation of America's military empirical machine is done for freedom, liberty, or doing the "right thing". You are severely brainwashed and conditioned if you honestly believe that lie.
How is what our troops are doing in the middle east for our freedom ? Can Afghanistan invade the US ? No. Can Pakistan invade the US ? No. Can Iraq or even Iran invade the US ? No and No.
So the truth is my freedom is not affected by any of the countries our military machine is occupying. My freedom is affected by The Patriot Act, Homeland Security, The IRS, The Federal Reserve, The National Defense Authorization Act, SOPA, PIPA, The CIA, and other federal interference are affecting MY freedom !
wow, can you really be that stupid?
Looks like he can.
Im scared.
oops hahaha
they warned they were coming
THEY should have expected US!
I'm starting to get sick and tired of hearing aout Annonymous. At first it was good. Now these wikileaks like people are irritating.
Sorta reminds me of the "Occupy" folks.....they are like flies.
Flies???... more like parasites or maggots... lol. NO SURVIVAL SOUP FOR YOU ANONYMOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...that need to be swatted.
John
You and Ido are irritating too :)
I agree John & Ido. They might have hacked the wrong site.
If you don't support anonymous and the Occupy movement you don't support your own rights as an individual. They fight for what we all want freedom from an oppressive possessive government.
You mean progressive government. Have you seen someone about your paranoia?
No they don't. They are misguided, arrogant cyber criminals who think they can hide behind a facade of "oh, we're conscientious objectors". I hope as many law enforcement resources as needed are committed to hunting them down and prosecuting them.
I agree completely. I despise this group. They attack whomever doesn't agree with their far-left ideology and there's no accountability, no defense against them. They're abusive and bullying scum.
Fazio, You have a short attention span.
Doesn't seem to have hurt Alabamas goober class atall. I can't speak for the CIA though. Bet It's still looking and hiding, especially if It's really in Alabama.
But the pedos, racist, capital thugs, and human rights violaters, are not scum? That's who these guys have gone after so far. I mean it's one thing if you're just a crazy old guy sitting on the porch creeping girls out and yelling slangs at other people walking by, has money horded in jars in the back yard that he refuses to give to anyone even after death, and thinks the GLBT community should be jailed for their personal choices/preferences. You simple just leave him alone and no body really gives a flying flip as long as he doesn't act out any of his fantasies. It is completely different when ENTITIES put in POWER and AUTHORITY do these things and think that nothing should happen to them for the fallout that IMPACTS the rest of the PEOPLE!
Hey, Mac. Please define 'goober class'. To know if they've been hurt we need to know who they are. As far as the hacking of CIA and law enforcement sites goes, sooner or later the hackers are going to release information that will result in the death of someone, if they haven't already. They won't intend for it to happen, those who think they know what's best for others never do when something goes seriously sideways. When they steal people's personal information what do they do with it? It only takes one get rich quick member of Anon. to sell off that information. The Robin Hood thing isn't flying any longer; they need to be caught and punished to the extent of the law.
Try and swat them. You'll find that easier said than done, if you can find any in the first place.
You guys do know that Anonymous is global, right?
Any intelligent service in any countries have done more illegal work for longest time. What CIA did may seem like a protecting US, but to people outside of US, they mostly illegal work and most often have negative effects on them.

ag99 kind of like the republican/tea bag party!
@Smarter than you. Tell me about it. I have a few things i would love them to delete. UGH!
I know right! it would be simlar to winning to lotto If i woke up tomorrow and the headlines read "Anonymous strikes again, sets all American credit balances to 0.00!"
@Smarter than you- Great. Then my taxes go up again to pay for the government backed student loan that you skated on. Pay your damned bills, and quit whining.
I wish it was that easy 'smarter'. But it would be totally cool. Somehow the credit card co. would complain that they lost all this money and the feds would bail them out...
I thought Annonymous at least had a good cause, new age fighting of government opression. But doing this for illeagal imagrants is rediculous. We need them gone! they are a drain on sosiety. California would have zero deficit problems if all the illegals were gone. in fact they would have a 5 billion dollar a year surplus. thats doing nothing to cut spending or raise taxes just loosing the illeagal imagrants. and there would be jobs available free market could set proper wages. The liberal news won't report this but residents in Alabama are picking up those jobs. Farmers initially were complaining but were not advertising to cause a problem that did not exist. to try to get a repeal of that law. give enough time and everything will be as it should be with US citizens working.
And most likely, this would be impossible to do without great effort. These folks do mainly DDoS attacks with others stealing personal info off direct-connected servers.
The credit card companies and banks probably have multiple redundancies to keep our balances from being "zeroed" out. Don't worry, you can continue to be a paying member to society like the rest of us.
You should be the next president....that would be funny. you cant change 50+years of immigration history..you have to adjust and go on making life easy and better for all, in the united states. you forgot to mention all lazy Americans.
Hey Darryl- I said I wanted fries with that burger. Please concentrate on your job at hand.
I think they should do this over illegal immigrants being treated like criminals. First I will say , Yes something needs to be done about the illegal immigration going on in this country but treating them like criminals is only going to make the world hate us more then they already do. Other countries in the world already do something similar to this. Imagine if you were in another country and lost your passport Lets say Turkey. Guess what, your going to a Turkish prison if you cant prove your identity, unless you were smart enough to go to the US embassy. However, this sometimes isn't the case. You will go to a Turkish prison where you will then have to do anything and everything you can to get out. I only know of this as it happened to my Cousin's Friend when they went. Thank god my Cousin was there so he could get help. We should not treat these people as criminalsas that goes against the very fiber of America. Then again what is America anymore. A bunch of overweight lazy Hamburger eating slobs with about as much knowledge of the world or other cultures.
Also I am an American and everyday I get more and more disgusted by this country. I can understand why most of the world hates us. We are so damn arrogant and think we can do anything. Someone needs to put us in check. Thank god for people like Anon for trying to change the world. If you think they are just terrorist or whatever, maybe you should read up on what they already have done and are still doing. See what they say. They say they do it for us, not them but us.
Also don't think I hate America, there are definitely smart intelligent and hard working people in this country, but that is just not the case for the majority. There is no such thing as patriotism anymore.
Lastly don't blame immigrants for taking all our jobs. The government forced a lot of the big manufactures out of this country with useless taxes that never did any good. This means the feds took more jobs away then the immigrants have.
Me, I can only assume you're being sarcastic. Otherwise the irony of your statement is really amazing. When these criminals are caught, they should be locked up for a good ten years or so with no access to computers or any sort of electrical device along those lines. They are terrorists, plain and simple, not to mention thieves.
Ken, I agree with you completely. Apparently stupidity runs rampant.
@Ken-880631 by criminals I hope you mean those racist politicians that encourage discrimination. Go anonymous we need someone to keep these corrupt politicians in check.. Expect us!
yes it does.
larynxsound, no, i mean the cowardly thieving bastards that call themselves "anonymous". That being said, I don't have a very high opinion of most politicians myself and especially hate racism.
Ken more than likely The CIA will Hire them if caught. Think about it they are fairly smart being able to use a DDos attack on the Federal Government. Especially at a CIA clearance level.
That is not your typical Mom and pop Website. Plus with the Computing power our Government has taking down an Array of servers like that is huge. Not just pinging over and over. But coordinated with others.
well of course you do, you must be a racist scum yourself... lets just blame all our problems on immigrants and poor people right!
Yes and No. The government should be aware that there so called super encrypted and can never be broken computers are well...broken. Also raises the question that if they can do it why didn't there test hackers catch it before they put it to work. Plus this is educational for us; the people; who seem to be ignorant of internet security and how fragile the system is. We shouldn't rely on computers for everything and store everything on the cloud. This should be a wake up call, as I'm sure there are plenty of others that can do this or already have. Imagine if a group of hackers really wanted to create havock.
Good points, all, Joey
larnyx: I must be racist scum? You need to realize that attacks like that just make you appear extreme and not to be taken seriously. I was agreeing with you in part, but now I see that you aren't someone who can be part of any rational discussion. Sorry to have wasted your time.
Ken you know who scares me more than Anonymous (China) They actually have the ability to hack some of our infrastructure and stop allot of our daily lives. Not for days but for months.
Saw a news program once explaining the havoc that could be caused. I don't think they would though since it would be and act of war. Anything can be broken into or stolen if someone wants it bad enough.
umm, I don't feel terrorized at all. Should I feel scared? I'm not. I'm at peace.
God is Great!!!!!
joeyfromcali,
They hacked their internet website, which would be called a nipr network for non-secured line. The governments secured networks are called sipr networks and the only way to hack them is to have a microwave inbetween the governments microwaves to intercept signals. Anonymous hacks from home, so they aren't going to hack a secured government network.
Brett, cool to know. Thanks for the info. Does anyone know why i was collapsed by the community?
Time: Scared? Not really. Concerned? Yep.
Peace.
How did Ken's comment get collapsed? Seems like a straight forward opinion to me, without namecalling or profanity. I must not understand how this works yet.
The Government and founding fathers of this country consist of evil, and evil only. nuff said
You view the Founding Fathers as evil...yeah, right. Evidently, their fleeing tyranny from another country and vowing to set up a just and free nation doesn't count, huh? Well, if you have so much contempt for this country, you're always FREE to leave. :-))
CAffeine Q Evidently, their fleeing tyranny from another country and vowing to set up a just and free nation doesn't count, huh?
Just for who? Because in many an opinion we have not gotten there yet. Plus the idea for our Nation did not come from the founding fathers it came from The native Iroquois Confederacy or 6 nations.
The idea was Divided in peace united in War. Take a look at a dollar bill. The eagle has an olive branch in one talon and 13 arrows bound in the other. Europeans at that time had one concept of government Queens and Kings.
So evading tyrany only to become the Tyrant is honestly not un evil.
Now if we had a government of the people. Most of what our government does should be public to its citizens. for the people by the people right.
Not saying hacking the CIA is right. And some information the CIA should not have like ordinary citizens SSN's . Plus disagreeing with the Government is not reason to leave its a reason to Speak more.
Most Native Nations had Councils not Chiefs but our forefathers could not really understand that. So they created the Presidency. Congress then the Senate Like Rome
R3LL: You are delusional. Our current government and it's officials are evil and only looks out for their own well-being, f*** the people is what they tell us everyday by their actions.
I can guarantee that our founding fathers would be appalled at least and amazed at most by our current government and their graduallly taking away of our "inalienable rights granted by our creator". The NDAA, The Posse Comitatus Act, the promise made to congress and the UN by the current POTUS to ban guns nationally by June 2013.
You just keep on thinking that our founding fathers were evil, and when you wake up from your fantasy, I hope they cart you away in the dark of night to a FEMA camp, much like the Nazi's did in the holocaust.
The S***'s going to hit the fan soon, so you better prepare yourself. Idiot!
Our rights have not been taken away. No one can take your rights. An individual must give them away. I have not given away any of my rights and never will. NDAA is nothing but empty words to many of us. The question is, how far will we got to defend our lives.
Thats what those racist politicians in Alabama get, Go Anonymous!
FYI, there are probably not 46,000 politicians in Alabama. those were regular people's information that could be sold. Most likely they weren't even involve with government or the decision to write and pass the bill in question.
BTW illegal immigrants are criminals, they need to come in the right way or not at all, it doesn't matter what nationality they are.
well then your ancestors where criminals
Yeah like the illegal British guy who had kids here and hid out in the open. When he was wanted for for a Armored truck heist in the UK. He had been here for 20 years. Send him back.
larynx, please, dont be stupid. Think about what you just said. Basically any NEW law put into affect since this country was founded should be null and void. I mean, after all, if our ancestors could do it then so should we. So sorry guys, Slavery is coming back. Sorry Women, no more voting for you. Seriously? See, in this country we pass laws all the time. What once you may have been able to do, you now find its illegal to do it. And so goes immigration. Do yourself a favor, read up on immigration laws and most importantly realize that there are laws in place to immigrate. By all means, embrace those people who strive to follow OUR LAWS and legally immigrate. But by flaunting their nose at the law and illegally crossing the borders shows total disrespect for ANY country.

Larynx,
Just remember there a lot of guns for hire out there who could spank Anonymous really good. Then the little dweebs would be peeing their pants.
"Regular people"....with criminal records?
Yea, right....same as Government officials!
I am not a fan of Anonymous. They claim they want to open up the Internet, yet apparently they aren't willing to open up their own membership. But what really concerns me with the CIA hacking is not what they may have found re espionage or anti-terrorism, or military plants. It is that the CIA clearly has a file on pretty much every person in the country. Big Brother has been watching for a very long time. The CIA is strictly forbidden to spy within the US; that's the job of the FBI. Well, they don't call it spying, but you probably know what I mean. If so many websites, from local police offices to the CIA, there is clearly a need for better internet security. I don't want the world to know who I am, where I live, my income, my children, or my job. I don't want to know that about anyone else. My question to other commenters is: what is more important; national security websites like the CIA, FBI, and NSA; or personal security of everyone using the internet?
I would hope that everyone realizes that the society we live in now is almost 100% electronic. There is nothing you do everyday that is not somehow or some way touched by the electronic world. If you have a discount card to your local hardware store or drug store, you have given away your name and address. For petes sake, the state you live in has a listing of all residents living there, your address, possibly your phone number, possibly your political affiliation, any criminal record. Your employer, has the same information and possibly more. My point is, it is perfectly legal for any and all these entities to "sell" a mailing list. Why on earth would you be surpised that the government has this information? It's out there now, for the world to see. The only thing the Anonymous, basement, living with mom, losers that can't handle real life have is their computers. Their intent may have started out respectably, but I fear their only accomplishment is going to be showing the true enemies of state the way in and allowing those then to throw civilization into chaos. And then what will these losers have?
OMG what if they deleted you like you never existed? Im scared.
i know a few people that might benefit. lol
LOL! I wouldn't worry too much about that!
Just had to shut one of my credit cards down due to a fradulent charge to the opposite coast of the U.S. Thankfully, my credit card company spotted it. I suppose a charge in CA not long after one in FL didn't make a whole amount of sense. How is this any different - just on a lot bigger scale.
If this group can take the CIA site down and brag about it, the whole nation is in deep bleepitty bleep. I just hope those perps don't migrate to China, or attempt to get all the goodies from Fort Knox for they would probably do it...
cacique...
doing a denial of service attack against the public web site of any organization is like you or I walking into a public library.....
It's NOT rocket science.
Fort Knox is very likely empty.
No gold in Fort Knox is why the security is so high. It's more dangerous for the public to find out it's already empty than the danger of it being robbed!
Gold in Fort Knox? Now that's a wet dream! Maybe along time ago.
Wow , people still believe there are goodies at Fort Knox?
I want wikileaks and anonymous to release something juicy. I want to them to hold a light up to the corruption and watch the roaches scurry! Otherwise this is pointless. I mean 99% of the sites they take down, I never visit anyways.
They just go after the easy stuff, pointless or not.
Another Al'CIAda false flag to remove our internet liberty.
Yep.
I have supported Anonymous in the past, but this is going a little too far. These aren't government records or anything like that, these are individual peoples' private information. I believe they should stop going too deeply into this area, or they will lose the empathetic eye that the public until now has cast upon them.
anonymous IS the government
Yeah, that would be funny. Kinda like when people thought area 51 had UFOs and it was just a place where the government built and tested the stealth bomber to hide from the Soviets. It could be a division of the govenment used to test cyber attacks and hides as an "anonymos" group to hide what they are really doing from other country military hackers.
I hope they find these little bastards, and ship them off to some secret detention center, and torture the crap out of them.
I hope there is no secret detention centers. THAT is scary. Big brother should not even exist. I have a right to my privacy.
and ignore constitutional rights?
guess you would be happier living during the witch trials era.
I value my freedom and rights, I also expect everyone else be treated with the same. Our Nation has not come this far to give up our freedoms due to fear, otherwise the terrorist win.
Richard Small, most are not from the US, and therefore, in my opinion, not entitled to any protections under OUR Constitution. Second, I do consider them terrorists, and they should be treated as such.
Apparently they chose to work on the CIA but not on the Mexican narcs as they had first threatened?
They got paid off.
Or more than likely, realized how dangerous for them that would have been and just let it go. Going after Mexican drug cartels...that'd be gettin' a little too real for them.
Because the CIA is less powerful than a drug cartel, right?
Yeah, they might get hurt. Those cartels don't mess with fools.
Anonymous are cowards. They only go after people who won't go after them. I hope the CIA finds the little asolescent creeps and deals with them (although I wouldn't expect to read anything about that).
Most postings from Anonymous are done from the TOR browser, and most likely are not on US soil, or they would have been caught already.
I can teach my 12yo nephew how to do a DDoS attack... big deal.
Exactly. It doesn't take a lot of brains to fire up and run LOIC.
That's a pretty impressive feat if the claims are true and I'd wager that they are true. It would be a lie if I said our government, more like our politicians, doesn't need to be put in it's place from time to time. I don't know if the Anonymous group is going about it the right way but look back at the Boston Tea Party. What they did was incredibly illegal at the time but now look how history depicts it. Makes you wonder....
the boston tea party didn't go door to door stealing peoples personal information. They threw tea off of a boat into the water. Honest to Christ, you think that's the same thing?
Speaking of the original Boston Tea Party, bear in mind that the people of Boston, in fact the entire "colonies," suffered severely in lack of products for which they relied on England. They (Tea Partiers) made a point, but everybody paid for it. Was it worth it? I don't know.
I don't know...if they hadn't we would be paying homage to the Queen on her Jubilee and speaking with British accents.
The
CIA is unconstitutional anyway. They are a corrupt group that feeds off tax
payer money and answers to no body. Legal assassinations and drug traffickings
are just a few of the things these guys do with our money. On the flip side, I
have believed all along Anonymous is a government/CIA cyber terrorist group
that will open the doors for internet security. Pipa, Sopa, Acta, its obvious
they want it. False flag operations happen all the time, we must not be
ignorant
Let's face it, nothing on the internet is safe anymore. If they can hack into the CIA's website and shut it down, your SS# and bank account info might as well be posted on a billboard on the freeway somewhere.
Technology has eliminated privacy in our lifetime! Nothing is private anymore, and if you think it is, your are extremely naive.
mark from Minnesota; you're just scaring people, kind of like a chain email. Your bank account is perfectly safe. The CIA's guest homepage is just a face for some info, and anybody with enough zombie PC's could take it down. In fact, I could.
They can't get to the good stuff, and they didn't this time. Sensitive stuff is behind all kinds of firewalls and stuff.
Yeah, well, they have the "Pentium 6 chip with artificial intelligence" to hack through them.
Taking down the public CIA website is not the same thing as "hacking the CIA's computers."
