If you don't spend nearly enough time scrolling through your inbox searching for email you actually need, great news! Twitter is "rolling out an email notification that lets you know if someone you follow retweets or favorites one of your Tweets," the microblogging service tweeted last night.
This adds to Twitter's existing email notifications that alert users when they've received new followers or a direct message to their account. If you're the sort who who'd rather not add to your information overload, you can always opt out of receiving the notifications. (Even if it doesn't bug you, you should probably opt out of email notifications anyway, lest you become that new breed of digital hoarders everyone's freaking out about.)
The expanded email notifications, meanwhile, are part of Twitter's move to beef-up its platform — at the expense of outside developers. Venture Beat reports:
With the finalized purchase of popular Twitter client Tweetdeck, the new e-mail notifications and previous hostile treatment of one of its developers, UberMedia — Twitter seems more likely to turn its back on third-party developers than work with them going forward.

I would never use my personal email to sign up on sites like Twitter.
Well, what would one expect from twits?!
