Marriage proposal video too good to be true?

YouTube

Every girl dreams of the day when her marriage proposal video includes a closeup on the product being used to record it!

Your proposal is the most important day in your life. Not mine. On a lesser note, not anyone else's either.

If that should-be-obvious admonishment isn't enough to stop hipsters from crapping up the Internet with intricately choreographed and/or edited nerdier-than-thou marriage proposal videos, perhaps this bogus wannabe viral version will make you see that the nonsense you'll be regretting decades after your first divorce is officially mad jejune.

"Frank has been in love with his girlfriend Kasey for many years," reads the prologue to the video I've been getting Twitter-spammed with for days now. "On October 24, 2010, he decided to finally pop the question. He planned a surprise proposal in Central Park. His tech savvy friends helped him pull it off. Hidden cameras and special iPhone apps were used."

Like fun he did!
"Frank's Marriage Proposal in Central Park" has more quick edits than an episode of "24." (Frank's "tech savvy friends" should've mashed up a Jack Bauer/Chloe conversations in the clip. That. Would. Be. Awesome.)

Tension builds as Frank rows under the bridge where an accomplice has lured Kasey to wait for her swain to toss her an engagement ring. (Yes, Frank tosses what De Beers insists is two to three months of Frank's salary, from a row boat in the water, to someone who may or may not catch like a girl. )

Perhaps this video would be more believable had the creators engaged a more age-appropriate couple. To reiternate the prologue, Frank's been in love with Kasey for "many years." Ever since that day she walked into his 6th grade Earth Science class … which he was teaching.

Still, way to throw us off the track with a three-piece band that shows up to play "Kasey's favorite song, 'Stand By Me,' " featuring a dude who totally can't stay on key! If this was some kind of promo for something, no way would slick marketing types ever hire a dude who can't sing, right? BTW: Kasey needs a better favorite song.

Honestly, whomever. If you're going to be fake, you need to do better. "Frank's Marriage Proposal" isn't even impressive as a hoax.

Why do you need so many featured players in your video if you're not restaging"Thriller?" Why are all of Frank's "tech savvy friends" bothcentral casting-attractive and equally overwhelmed with emotion when Kasey says -- gasps -- "yes"? And why so many closeups on the iPhone app?

Disclaimer: This unnamed iPhone app proposal may very well be real. FrankandKasey.com, the empty website viewers are directed to at the end of the video, may not be the future site to learn more about the unnamed "special iPhone apps" advertised – er, I mean used – to make the video.

In that case I and everyone else who called "Shenanigans!" will have wedding cake on our faces, and Glamour, Examiner.com, Cult of Mac and the rest will prove themselves suckers for love instead of -- you know -- suckers. Doubtful.

And if there really is a Frank and Kasey -- I give 'em two years. Five at the most. That's pretty much what I give everyone, fake or not. Am I cynical? Duh. But I'm not the one making fake viral wedding videos in an attempt to sell you something.

Finally! Something even more cheesy than idiots proposing to their girlfriends on the big screen at sporting events. Sigh.

The guy singing although off key is no other than Austin W. from MSM. Stick to playing your drums.

I hate to say this, but it is definitely fake. At about 1:35 she has her big brown purse on top of the wall/railing, then they cut to the singer and quickly back to her 3 seconds later (1:38) and the purse is gone. Later she is seen carrying the purse down to get into the boat.

It is sweet, but fake. You can tell by the acted out expression on her face...and I noticed the same thing that you noticed, her purse is there on the wall of the bridge at 1:35, but not at 1:38, and then she has it again at the end as she runs down to the boat.

At first I thought, well, maybe someone stole her purse at 1:38 when she was watching Frank, but no, it is just that the director of this fake proposal missed that element when filming. Nice try at being realistic though.

Gay. Dear God that was bad. Jesus would smack you for making something so horrible, if he hadn't died for our sins.

I'm more disdained at the utter contempt for marriage expressed here. It's too bad that divorce is now considered a normal part of marriage. *sigh*

Oh - and I've been happily married for 23 years - they said it wouldn't last (interracial) - they were wrong.

This has been done LONG before. Greg surprised his long-time girlfriend (now wife) Caitlin via the IPhone back in March of 2009. He gave her the phone she'd been desperately wanting as a birthday present and when he "tested it", after she opened the package, the ringtone was set to Beyonce's "Single Ladies - Put a Ring on It" and the photo of the engagement ring with the words "Will You Marry Me" came up on the display. Check it out on Youtube - Very cute! Search Youtube for "Greg's Surprise Proposal to Caitlin via IPhone". Her response is hysterical - "What?" She accepted immediately. He thought she was more excited to have the IPhone than the ring, but she denied it!

That's almost as lame as proposing on the Jumbotron at a sporting event. What's wrong with the old-fashioned way? I bet Caitlin will remember getting the IPhone as a gift longer than she'll remember the proposal.

Who needs a proposal. I was pregnant told him "We are getting married" and 40 years later with two kids, here we are!

Ouch. You hope that your viral video will get legs based on controversy over whether it's real or fake, but then you make one continuity error involving the purse, and it's Game Over. Oh, well, better luck next time, guys.

That is BEYOND cheesy. Come on - if you really were doing this, wouldn't you get someone who could actually SING? And no one in his right mind would throw a box with a diamond ring up to someone standing on a bridge.

And did anyone else notice that at the end of the video, KASEY is the one rowing the boat away?

So fake! Not only the disappearing purse, but the disappearing/reappearing people around her on the bridge. At 2:27 she's all by herself, 2 seconds later she's literally surrounded by people, this happens again and again.

This is so fake. It just so happens that everything they are using are Apple products: the phones and the labtop, and how interesting that the ring box is white just like apple products. If it was real why would they always show closeups of the iPhone and the 4 different cameras.

The only thing dumber than this video is wasting time writing an article about it. I regret having spent any time at all on this nonsense.

Looks like a lot of editing to me! Take a look at this video of me proposing to my fiance on 9/2/10. I accomplished this by only telling one person, the guy who videoed it. To set up what you are about to see: We both went to college in Columbus OH where we met, we are both huge Buckeye football fans. The band is the Danger brothers who have been an Ohio State Buckeye tailgate tradition for over 20 years. I set this entire scenario up with band in advance. My fiances name is Brandi, before the video starts the singer says "are there any girls named Brandi in the crowd" of course I knew she would gladly run up on stage, he then says "does anyone know the words to this song" I reluctantly say "I think I might.." and join her on stage. There I sing the song Brandy by the looking glass except I rewrote the words to be about her. She is totally unaware and even says "don't give him a mike he does not know the words" anyway I begin to sing and she thinks I a just being funny until I say my name in the song and she takes her glasses off. She said Yes.
