A lot of bad things happen in this world, and for the most part, they're pretty easy to ignore without even trying.
But sometimes you just have to make a stand, sit down at your computer, and click a Like button on Facebook to let the whole world know that you are against putting perfectly good tabby cats in wheelie garbage bins.
Even as you kill time, there are dozens of groups popping up on Facebook to protest (or in some contrarian cases, praise) a 50-year-old bank teller who was busted by CCTV incongruously dropping a cat named Lola into a garbage bin. Britain's closed-circuit television isn't called (by critics) "Big Brother surveillance" for nothing, you know!
Still, with an undisclosed number of cameras located throughout towns and city centers operated either privately or by the government, CCTV isn't alone in finding the woman. Thanks to the Internet, the woman isn't just identified, she's well on her way to a full-on meme -- whether she likes it or not. Why, she's just like disgruntled JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater, except everybody loved him. Her, not so much.
"Britain's most hated woman" is now under police protection after she was identified in CCTV video posted on YouTube and Facebook, reports the U.K. Sun. Lola, meanwhile, reportedly remained in the bin for 15 hours, until her owners finally heard the yowls.
Lola's infuriated "fur parents" posted the CCTV video taken from cameras they installed around their home, and soon enough, the woman was found. But not arrested. Turns out dropping a cat in a bin isn't against the law -- though the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is reportedly looking to have words with her.
Certainly a lot of questions remain to be answered. Mainly, this one: In the age of kitty-obsessed social media, in the most video-surveilled country in the world, what would possess a lady walking down the street to briefly stop in order to coax an unsuspecting tabby cat with a few dubious strokes, then grab it by the scruff and toss it in a garbage bin?
If the woman isn't willing to speak publically, we'll have to wait until her emerging viral status comes full circle. You know what I'm talking about -- when the Taiwan TV News (TTVN) puts its awesome Sims-style skills to work and offers a re-creation of events -- including an illuminating back story that never happened.
Remember how much we learned when TTVN re-created that fateful Thanksgiving night Tiger Woods hit a tree, or explained net neutrality with CGI Eric Schmidt of Google signing a deal with the CGI devil and also revealed animated Justin Bieber visiting an STD clinic?
Just think how much we'll come to understand the woman's bin-dumping motivations once we learn what TTVN believed happened off-camera, just before the bin-dumping occurred. Once TTVN shows us Lola's Twitter feed from earlier that day, perhaps we'll come to learn how much that smack-tweeting cat deserved what she got.
(Not really. Everyone knows cats don't tweet.)

The classic refrain, "he/she seemed so normal" comes to mind. Mrs. Ordinary seemingly fitting into society but all the while evil by any definition. The cat (lacking all guile and any ability to hate) says, "hello human" and human promptly and literally throws away this beautiful living thing. Our cat has more soul and "person-hood" then this middle aged "animal" will ever posses. She needs to be proverbially thrown away with the trash (that's what you do with garbage) as well as literally incarcerated for a very long time!
This video looks mighty suspicious. Here's why. Though originally from the city, I grew up out in the country. And we always had cats when we live out there in the sticks. When this woman picks up the "cat", it appears that the cat goes "blurry". Plus the fact that a "normal" cat would start fighting back if it were to be presented with containment. The blurry cat didn't even give the impression of fighting back. Plus, the time counter in the lower left corner of the screen keeps stopping and skipping time.
This tells me that someone might be looking for their 15 minutes of fame. If this is the case, they got it.
She probably puts razor blades in apples, poisons candy for Halloween and of course has a bunch of corpes in her basement freezer. Authorities, please check her freezer.
Spiddas, the fact the cat goes blurry is because it was a really quick grab and throw, and the camera doesn't pick up motion that well so it becomes blurry. Also the cat didn't have time to react, purely because she did it in only a matter of seconds.

Possibly. But the cat would immediately try to get out, and I don't see the lid move in the remainder of the video. If it happened, it happened. I'm just saying that with the experience I have with cats, good, bad and ugly, the video looks fishy. With as many cats as we had over the years out there, we didn't have much trouble with vermin. Of course I'ld be the one who would have to put them down when they would occasionally come home too torn up to recover. (Can you say , "Old Yeller"?)

A lot of security camera videos arn't high quality so you can never be 100%. However, I have watched my fair share of videos like that(as well as knowing how to Photoshop), and I'm pretty(95-99%) sure the video isn't faked. But the lid could also have been to heavy for the cat to get out. That is always a possiblity.
I have cats of my own, and I know that they can be pretty fast, but I think this cruel women was just fast enough to edge out the cat.
Spiddas, The cat would have trouble in that split second moving the lid. I have one of those 55gallon garbage bins and they are at least 4ft tall. Not to say that my cat can't jump that high but he is going to be reluctant to jump when he can't see where he's jumping. By the way, the lids are to heavy for cat to budge. And the video went blurry because of the speed of the action. It was also blurry when the cat jumped up on the wall. What a mean spirited person that woman is. Glad she's not my relative.
the lid would defenitely be to heavy. my cat can't even get a small laundry basket off from her. I'm curios why it took 15 hours for the cat to get out. It's funny how only the owners could here it and wasn't this live.
The minute I saw the clip, I just had to give her the finger for the rest of her life. Even if the cat was being obnoxious, stuffing the poor creature into a garbage can and walking away is NOT a good way to punish a creature. My cats are just as obnoxious, and yet I wouldn't even do THAT!
But I'm just as disappointed in the law enforcement there as I do the woman. There really should be a law for animal cruelty like this. Although I am glad the RSPCA is having a talk with this careless idiot.

The cat was probably walking on her property all the time, unbidden, defecating, and screwing others cats. I have the same problem, and if I had a garbage pail well... No that is a bit cruel, maybe just the local gas chamber.

Keegan..."disappointed in law enforcement"? Why? I am assuming, since you used the full and proper term, that you understand that Law Enforcement is there to ENFORE the law, not to create it. So be fair...bleam teh people who create the laws. To say you are disappointed in law enforcement is misdirected.
The reason the cat goes blurry is because the movement suddenly speeds up. The cat is pretty friendly which you can tell because of how easily it comes up to her to be pet and the cat has no reason to fear the woman. Anyone who is familiar with friendly cats, even ones who don't like to be held, you can momentarily pick them up by the scruf of the neck as this woman did. By the time the cat begins to show fear it is already being released into the trash can and you can tell the woman thought this through to make sure she quickly moved the cat into the trash can before it turned from friendly to scared and scratched her. This woman should be criminally charged for cruelty to animals, if the UK has such laws.

This occurred over in the UK and the bin shown looks to be the typical one meter in height, (less than 4 feet tall). They are also reporting that the cat wasn't found for 15 hours! This means that the owners didn't care about the cat wandering the neighborhood (bad owners), the cat didn't make any sound while in the bin (stupid cat), and if it did, no one walking by cared enough to look (Hmmm).
Fifteen hours? We have more than one guilty party here.
Someone should drop this old Beotch in a dumpster for 15 hours and see how she likes it.
I have 2 normal cats and one of them is very friendy and trusting of strangers and wouldn't put up a fuss if picked up and by the time she'd figure out she's being put in a bin it's too late. If she had a problem with the cat, she should have spoken to her neigbors about it. Didn't have a peek at the video yet, so can't respond to that point.
Evil and Heartless. You can judge people by the way they treat animals. You know a frightening thought is that she has procreated and she could actually be someones mother.

Ok, we live in the country, out in the sticks, hillbilly heaven... and yes, we have random feral cats that occassionally show up and become nuisances by reproducing like crazy and basically being - well, wild unwanted feral packs of cats. That said, we humanely and quickly put them down by one single 22. to the head. We do not torture them by sticking them alive in a deep hole for them to die a slow agonizing and terrifying death. What this woman did was animal cruelty, at its worse.
Oh, so people can make the biggest hype about a woman (that didn't even KILL the cat), but people are SILENT when babies are MURDERED every day by lazy and irresponsible women! This infuriates me. 50 million babies have been murdered in the past decade. HOW IS THAT LEGAL!?!?!?! People need to learn to reorganize their priorities. 50 million babies is more important than 500 billion cats!

I totally agree with Spiddas as the video seems suspicious as she look at the camera and when she lifts the cat up it becomes blurred and it seems distorted. Another example of someone messing with video to start a news story.
I agree...How would she like it if some huge alien that she trusted came along and picked her up all the while she was trusting and dumped her into a huge container she could not escape from and just went on there way as if that was just a piece of trash they had picked up off the street!

Come guys this is a cat we talking about, get a grip on yourselves and move on. There are more pressing issues that need our attention, like aid for the flood victims in pakistan, global warming etc, etc. etc. Looks like you people have a lot of free time on hand, try to figure out why she did this to the cat. For her to do something this bad, means she must have been a victim to attacks by this stupid, arrogant and ungrateful animal, which domestic cats generally are.

Amen to those who see this woman's behavior as vile. But more than this, research has clearly demonstrated that there is a link between abusre of animals and domestic violence and assaultive behavior to other humans. In fact, it is one of the triad behaviors that identify sociopaths (particularly serial killers). So if she was a bed wetter early in her life and set fires on purpose, she meets the indicators. While very few sociopaths ever raise to the level of serial killers (thank goodness), and I'm sure this woman isn't one. Sociopaths are people who lack emapthy and will hurt living things just because they can. It doesn't matter if you are a "dog person" and hate cats for what ever control issues you have. Just leave them be. They don't like you either.

It is sad that people are up in arms about a cat be thrown in a dumpster when there are people living in dumpsters in there cities and could care less about the innocent people (women and children) who are abused in there own neighborhood and know about it yet do nothing. The BTK (Bind Torture Kill) killer was "normal-looking", too. He looked "normal" to his fellow parishoners at church, to his in-laws when he danced the father/daughter dance at his daughter's wedding. He looked perfectly normal to a single mother in his home-town, who let him in when he posed as a telephone-line worker, then once inside the woman's home, proceded to tie her up, hog-style, and watch her slowly suffocate. Enough? Not hardly. He led her little five-year-old daughter into the basement of the home, drew a loop of clothesline around her neck, threw the line over an overhead pipe, and hoisted her up, letting the little five-year-old slowly strangle, while he did things to her body. Finally she drew her last breath and her torture was over. The BTK killer would not be caught for many, many years. Because of ineptitude on the part of the police? NO. Because he looked so "normal".
It's fake. Can no one see that the clock starts at 19:54:11 and ends at 19:54:41 (30 secs) whereas the YouTube time shows 36 seconds. You can also see the time shifting. But what's most disturbing is that there are those of you writing posts who don't care about an animal if it were to happen.

Whether it's real or fake, just the idea that anyone would think it is humorous or, in fact, cruel enough to do something like this, makes me wish it were possible to take this kind of person and put them through the same experience.....
I agree, this video looks faked if you watch the time stamp. The motion of the woman is relatively smooth but the video time stamp jumps around.
Have a feeling this is once again going to be an incident of the media jumping all over something before it's verified to actually be real.

Brennan-get over it. It's not your kid or your choice. The government by all definitions state your existance starts at the date of birth. The only reason you can have a double homicide (even though that's being challenged) when murdering a pregnant mother, is because the choice was taken away. If you're going to sit there and place judgement on people that make that choice to abort, I hope you have a house full of adopted children. I do mean FULL. Do hope this woman has enough sense (although that might be too much to ask!) to get someone to stay in her home with her and stay awake during the night while she is asleep - I can envision some neighbors breaking in and putting her in a trash bin.
If the cat had been bothering her, at least there would be a reason for her behavior, not a good reason, of course, but at least a reason.

I agree! Let her think no-one knows where she is and see how she reacts. I DESPISE people that harm animals, to me it is as bad as the ones that harm children; neither have an ability to protect themselves. These kind of people should just be locked up somewhere on a deserted island and left to fend for themselves.

In many ways animal lives are more valuable than humans. People are capable of horrendous things . . . such evil does not exist in the animal world. Animals don't fly planes into buildings, or kill thousands of people based on "religious beliefs", but people do. In fact, religion has been the source of more pain, suffering, and murder than ANY OTHER cause on this planet . . . INCLUDING Christianity.

Cats are cute & cats are cuddly. Their purring makes me feel warm all over. Here kitty, kitty. Ouch! It scratched me. Oh look, now it's infected! Damned cat!
They roam around all day digging and pooping in your neighbor's flowerbeds and vegetable garden. They howl and fight all night under your neighbor's bedroom window. And all the neighborhood tom cats take turns copulating with your unspayed cat making a mess of new kitties to continue the cycle. Dirty filthy diseased cats running loose. I have two cats that stay indoors. They are clean, healthy and disease-free and they see the vet regularly. Many of my neighbors have cats that run loose. They are noisy and filthy. One of my neighbors had a sick cat that eventually came over into my yard and died. They didn't even want it back. I had to get rid of it. I have to put up netting around all my veggie & flower beds to keep the neighborhood cats from leaving gooey, stinky blobs of fly-attracting poop anywhere they want.
People who let their cats run free are very inconsiderate and oblivious to the public nuisance and disturbance that their animals cause. Although I don't agree with what she did, I'm sure this woman was simply fed up with her stupid neighbor's stupid cat.

There is no evidence that this little cat was causing her any problems. If she did she should have taken it up with the owners- not torturing a friendly cat. This is just a nasty, mean, EVIL woman who deserves to be punished for torturing a small animal. The cat could have died in that bin. I am am horrified that there is such evil walking around free in this world. She does not deserve police protection. Let the people of her community let her know what they think of her and her actions. Maybe lock her in a trash can for a while to think it over. I also find it difficult to believe that England doesn't have an animal cruelty laws.

In most incorporated cities and towns, cats are still considered to be pests if they are not kept indoors and are allowed to roam free. Many of the smaller jurisdictions even allow home owners to shoot them if they are "trespassing".

Having lost a good friend in the Postal Service when a mistreated postal carrier lost it and went on a shooting rampage after being left a message on his answering machine that he had been fired because Postal management lack the courage and common courtsey to tell him in person, AND having 42 and half years in the Postal Service myself, "going postal" is one phrase that should be removed from the English language. Most postal workers find such a phrase offensive and insulting.

Key word, "normally". Indoor cats? Yes. Outdoor cats? Not so likely. At least when it's uncovered you can see where to avoid stepping. The hidden landmines are usually found AFTER you get into your car or walk into your house and smear it into the carpet! O_o
From what I read she was not a neighbor, but lived 10 miles away. If cats are spayed they do not roam or cause problems. THere's no excuse for this crazy lady nor for what she did to the innocent little cat.

Totally agree (I don't think the cat deserved to be put in the trash) but I still don't get why we have leash laws for dogs and not for cats...stupid
Though I agree there is no excuse for cruelty and that this woman should be punished somehow, I also agree that pet owners need to be responsible as well.
I can't speak to these particular cat owners as I do not know how they handle their pet. But, there are far too many people that let their animals roam, defecating everywhere, digging through trash, etc. If you are going to own a pet you carry the responsibility of keeping tabs on them.
Most animal owners view their pets as their children or beloved family members. Would you let your child roam the neighborhood, wandering through others property, urinating in their yards or defecating in their landscaping? I would hope not.
Again this womans actions were completely out of line and don't appear to be a result of the cat's actions but rather her own issues, so I in no way condone her actions.
She wasn't a neighbor---he didn't recognize her when he saw the video. I do agree with it not being a good idea to let your pets roam outside.

I'm not much of a pet person, but I don't understand why some pet owners don't seem to care very much for their pets and they let them roam free. That's animal abuse, in my opinion, and disrespectful of other people (who might have allergies or who might be afraid of all cats and dogs, for example.)
We don't know the entire story here (innocent until proven guilty, right?), but no matter what, it is absolutely wrong to put an animal in a garbage can.
Hello - have you never had your cat sneak outside and you haven't noticed? It's happened with my cat a few times. He LOVES to be outside, and when I take him, he's in a harness on a leash unless he sneaks out. To assume that they just always let their cat roam free is an assumption. If they thought he was safely tucked away in the house while they were at work/out, then why would the owners notice him missing until they got home?
I think the reason for leash laws for dogs but not for cats is that each year, 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs and, on average, 20-30 people are killed by dog bites. I can't locate any stats for bites or death resulting from loose cats.

ND- Yes, things happen, animals can sneak out even from the best pet owner. This is why I stated I can't speak to these particulat cat owners as the article doesn't say whether this was normally an indoor cat or not.
I will say again though, that when you take on owning a pet it is your full responsibility to care for and protect them. It's also your responsibility to ensure they are not a nuisance. I am an animal lover and have owned and cared for many pets but find it quite rude when owners to not properly tend to their animals which includes keeping tabs on them.
The same way that I find people who let their children run up and down the aisle at the store or run rampant at a restaurant to be irresponsible. I have 3 children, who have their moments as all do, but know that there is a time and place for everything and being a nuisance is not acceptable. this isn't because they are born with this knowledge, it's because the adult with reasoning abilities has taught them. Same goes for your animals.
Rich- I would agree that children as human beings have far more worth than an animal. I use the child analogy because I would venture to guess that most animal owners posting here consider their pets as their children.
Wow! I am amazed at the cruelty of this woman - pets the cat and then dumps the cat. As a pet parent myself, I cannot imagine the cruelty you read about every single day. My question: if she does this with an animal, would she harm a child? After all, children and animals cannot defend themselves against us - the "grownups" and often look to us for protection. This is a very sad, very small woman.

Laura, you are absolutely correct! We have three cats and two prefer staying inside, while the third prefers outside. However, ALL three prefer at least SOME outside time, and all three crave adult attention and are extremely lovable.
Many have written here who are uneducated about cats. Cats DO cover up their poop. If a litter box is available inside, they WILL use it. Having raised several litters inside, it is so amazing and cute to see the cute little critters climb in the litter box to do their business when they have barely begun to walk. People always want them as soon as they are weened. Our area has NO rodents - a real advantage to having cats. Even snakes do not survive around cats. Cats keep themselves exceptionally clean, and unless they are extremely long hair, have virtually no odor. They each have their own personalities, and if you observe them and interact with them, you can get really attached to them. They let you know when they want out or in, and NEED some roaming time - it's the nature of a cat. They usually will not bother you, unless you stop to pet them, and then many easily develop an attachment. They have a unique ability to read your mind and know what you want, and frequently crave human affection. It seems that God gave cats to us as special pets. I have never know one to viciously kill a person as pit bulls often do!
This is horrible! There is no excuse for putting a cat--any cat--in a garbage can. Even if she had problems with this cat or another one, this is not the way to handle problems. Thankfully the owners found the cat. I hope the woman who dumped the cat is punished.

When my daughter was about six, she and her friend met me as I was getting out of my car after a day at the office. She was holding a little ball of fur in her arms, and I knew exactly where things were going. She said "Look daddy!" and I exclaimed "Oh boy, a kitten... they taste just like chicken!" Both of the girl's eyes got big, my daughter quickly handed the kitten back to her friend and both of them returned from whence they came. Of course my daughter was scarred for life, but the house has remained remained litterbox free!

May I suggest a suitable (but not all inclusive) punishment,,, mandatory community service at a local pet shop, where upon she shall clean, on a twice daily basis, the holding cages or rooms of all Kittie/cats now up for adoption. This, she will do for a period of not less than one month at the pet shop; and then followed by another month of cleaning out the BIG cats pens at the CIty London ZOO!

I have known many English and have traveled extensively within the country. Most English are very fond of their cats. They are adorable animals and excellent pets. The woman who committed this act needs a psychiatric evaluation, and possibly therapy. Thank God we never let her watch our daughters. It truly would be good to check her basement freezer, especially if her husband just suddenly disappeared.
